Add up to 500 GB of additional storage space to your virtual machine to boost its working storage

...

Using Linux’s GUI interface:

  1. Click Files on the left side menu.

  2. Select + Other locations from the side menu in the opened window.

  3. Click Computer on the next window.

  4. There will be a directory with your nominated storage name in the next window.

You can also access it via terminal through the path: "/your_storage_name".

Note

Important: Renaming the directory/mountpoint from within the vm will not be reflected on the table and may cause sync issues during unshelving auto reattaching process.

On a Windows VM

  1. Open File Explorer and click This PC.

  2. Your additional storage will be located under Devices and drives with your nominated storage name.

titleWhat happens to my additional storage if I delete my virtual machine?

If your virtual machine is deleted, by default all its additional storage will be deleted too.

But you can mark your additional storage volumes for keeping so that they can be automatically added to the next virtual machine you create. To do this, just make sure to tick the checkboxes against the additional volumes that you’d like to keep in the pop-up window where you confirm the deletion of the VM.

Note

Note: There are some limitations around this auto-adding feature:

  • It only works with machines created inside the same resource type (i.e. you delete a VM inside a particular resource, without deleting the resource itself, then you just create a new VM inside of it).

  • The new VM has to be of the same operating system as the original one.
