Accessing storage allocations

You can gain access to Mediaflux storage in one of two ways:

A project owner or administrator grants you access to their existing Mediaflux project
You apply for your own Mediaflux project through the Research Computing Portal (see the application guide for steps)

Requesting new/changing existing storage allocations

Please use the self-service Research Computing Portal (RCP) whenever you need to:

request a new Mediaflux storage allocation
request a change to an existing Mediaflux quota
change access permissions

Important: To access RCP when off campus, you need to be connected to the University VPN.

Note:

RCP requires Mediaflux resources to belong to an 'Activity' --- this means that you create an Activity first, then add the Mediaflux resource to it (alternatively you can add Mediaflux resources to preexisting Activities if you have them).
Only one Mediaflux resource is allowed per RCP Activity.

Accessing Mediaflux and working with project data

The Mediaflux server name is mediaflux.researchsoftware.unimelb.edu.au.

Data stored on Mediaflux can be accessed in many ways:

We recommend the Mediaflux Explorer (Java client) for new users as it uses a simple drag and drop method for uploading and downloading data.
But there are many other options, catering to all sorts of different workflows. Please see our guide Choosing the right access protocol for you for detailed advice.

Opting in to MFA

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Mediaflux is now available for users to opt in to before it becomes a mandatory requirement for Mediaflux use in the near future. To learn more and enrol, see our Mediaflux MFA guide.
