Firefox: Disable Mixed Content Blocking

Firefox blocks the mixed content by default. While Arcitecta Deskotp Integeration(DTI) Java applet serves locally as mixed content to the browser. That is why we need to manually disable the protection on the DaRIS portal web site to enable Arcitecta Desktop Integeration(DTI) Java applet. See step 10 of this wiki page.

However, Firefox does not remember it. Next time you open DaRIS web portal, you need to go through the same process to unblock it. It is pretty annoying.

You can disable mixed content blocking permanently by

  • Option 1: editing about:config
    1. enter about:config in address field.
    2. search for security.mixed
    3. select security.mixed_content.block_active_content and set it false
  • Option 2: install Toggle Mixed Active Content addon
    1. After install the addon, you will see a button with green capital A as icon. Color green means the blocking is enabled. Toggle the button to disable the blocking (the color of the icon will become red: means blocking is disabled.)
    2. You can unblock DaRIS web site by toggling A button to red.
  • Note: The above options disabled mixed content blocking on all the web sites. It downgrades the security a little bit. For other untrusted web sites, you may want to re-enable blocking by toggling A button to green.
