Eligibility to access to our services

Eligibility to access to our services

To access RCS computing infrastructure resources and associated services, you will need:

1. University of Melbourne credentials

To log into our products and services you will need UoM credentials, and this applies even to external collaborators not employed at the University.

Acquiring UoM credentials for your external collaborators
To grant access to our resources to an external collaborator, you will need to organise a request on their behalf for UoM credentials.

Please only submit ONE request per external user, coming from the UoM supervisor.
Please choose the most relevant submission option according to your situation.

  • Option A: University Guest Appointment

If the collaboration will require the external researcher to come on campus, they would be considered a University Guest and will require a University Guest Appointment. Please follow the steps in KB0031279 (specifically the ‘Initiated by Supervisor’ section) to request a University Guest appointment for them via WorkDay.

  • Option B: IT Access Account

If the collaboration will not require the external researcher to come on campus, then they will require a UoM IT Access Account. Please follow the steps in KB0023272 to request an IT Access Account for them via ServiceNow.

2. Appropriate RCAO ownership

All our resources require an eligible Research Computing Activity Owner (RCAO). RCAOs must be University of Melbourne academic staff members with appropriate positional authority, including financial delegation, within their organisational unit.

If this is you, then you can nominate yourself as RCAO. Likewise, you can reassign ownership at any point to another UoM academic staff member.

If this is not you, then you must nominate someone else who meets one of the following conditions:

  • For graduate researchers: your University of Melbourne academic supervisor (if your primary supervisor doesn’t meet RCAO requirements, you can choose a co-supervisor or your Head of School/Department/Faculty).

  • For academic researchers: a collaborating University of Melbourne academic.

  • For professional research support staff: the appropriate University of Melbourne academic.

See our Terms of Service for more detail on roles and responsibilities of all users and RCAOs.
