About the Research Computing Portal
The Research Computing Portal (RCP) is a self-service portal for researchers to explore and access specialised data and computing resources, all of which are supplied by Research Computing Services (RCS). From this one handy place, you can request, manage and track all your research computing needs.
Additionally, you can also share your Portal resources with other collaborating researchers, find help materials for the resources, and estimate cost information for grant purposes.
Not even sure what research computing is? Read more about it here.
The RCP’s for anyone with research computing needs, not just computing experts
We provide large scale, high power infrastructure for managing research data, but it’s not just for computing experts. If your work involves lots of data and/or doing special things with data like computing it, sharing it with other researchers, presenting it on a webpage, or securing it somewhere safe because it’s sensitive, then you’ll likely need our resources and we’re happy to help you get started with them. No expertise is required or assumed!
The RCP saves you having to buy and maintain your own resources
Making use of our products and services means you can avoid having to purchase expensive hardware for yourself. Furthermore, we maintain all the hardware for you, and can help you set it up and use it.
Achieving great things with your research data
Here are some examples of what researchers are doing using our research computing:
Moving heavy workloads onto a virtual, easily scalable, machine to free up their laptop for other tasks.
Running applications continuously in the cloud without interruption (no need to be in the office with the computer ‘on’).
Creating online data collections that are shareable with collaborators, but also compliantly private and secure.
Batch processing large datasets on supercomputers built for computing large calculations/many smaller calculations simultaneously.
