Getting Started with DaRIS

Apply for a new DaRIS storage allocation

Eligible UoM researchers can apply for a DaRIS data storage allocation for their projects through our self-service Research Computing Portal (RCP):

Log into RCP using your UoM account username and password.
Note: If you are off campus, you need to be connected to the University VPN before you can access the Portal.

Skip this step if you already have an existing RCP Activity that you wish to add your DaRIS resource to.

  • Go to your Home page in RCP

  • Click Create New Activity

  • Complete the resultant form and click Submit

Result:

  • If you listed yourself as the RCAO, the new Activity should appear on your Home page and will be ready for use.

  • If you listed someone else as RCAO, the Activity will appear but won’t be ready until the RCAO approves it.

  • On your Home page in RCP, locate the Activity you want to add the DaRIS resource to

  • Click Add Resource within that Activity

  • In the resultant pop-out window, find the DaRIS tile and click Add Resource (0/1)

  • On your Home page in RCP, locate the relevant DaRIS resource

  • On the resource’s tile, click Request an Allocation

  • Enter a storage quota and a name for the allocation, then click Request

Result:

  • Once the allocation has been provisioned, you’ll see a green message: “Allocation ready to use!” This means your DaRIS storage is ready for access.

For Customers of MBCIU (MR, PET/CT) or Florey MRI Facility

If your research data is acquired at Melbourne Brain Centre Imaging Unit (MBCIU) or the Florey MRI Facility, the facility will provision a DaRIS project for you to deliver the data. In most cases, you don’t need to apply for your own DaRIS storage allocation.

Request access to an existing DaRIS project

To request access to an existing DaRIS project, please submit a ServiceNow request:

Filling in the details in your request form:

  • When the form asks for a ‘service’, select Research Data Storage.

  • When the forms says ‘describe your request’, be sure to include at a minimum:

    • the user details (email or UoM username) if you are requesting access for someone else

    • the DaRIS project ID of the project that you want to access

    • the access level required (project-administrator, subject-administrator, member, or guest)

Access the DaRIS web portal

After your DaRIS project is provisioned and your user access is enabled, you will be able to access it via the web portal:

Old web portal (Tree View)

New web portal (List View)
