Mediaflux Namespace to Collection migration

Mediaflux Namespace to Collection migration

We are migrating everyone’s project spaces as part of a broader system upgrade that will give us more flexibility to manage and improve our Mediaflux platform moving forwards. This upgrade will position us to take advantage of upcoming Mediaflux software enhancement opportunities and deliver more handy features for you.

What you need to know

You won’t be able to access your project space while we migrate it - we expect that the outage period for any given project could take up to a full day (24 hours).

What you need to do

Please complete any data uploads and changes you have in train, and log out of Mediaflux, prior to your project space’s outage period.

We’ll be contacting everybody individually to let them know their respective outage period (we’ll alert you two weeks before, and then remind you the day before).

Changes

What’s changing:

  • the way Mediaflux represents directory structures (files and folders/directories)

What’s NOT changing:

  • the content of your files

  • the usual ways you access your project

New directory structures

When you get your access back after we’ve migrated your project space, you may or may not notice some changes.

  • If you access your project via Mediaflux Explorer or Mediaflux Desktop you may find that way you navigate to it has slightly changed:

    • When there’s a combination of migrated and unmigrated projects, they will be split across two top-level folders (both called ‘projects’, albeit slightly different shades of blue)

    • When all your projects are migrated, they will all be located in one folder called ‘projects’ (i.e. no change from what you see now)

  • If you access your project via any other mechanism, you will not notice any changes to its location.

If you use Mediaflux Explorer to access your data, please ensure you have downloaded the latest version, otherwise you may have issues accessing your projects post-migration: https://rcs-knowledge-hub.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/5472409/Mediaflux+Explorer+HTTPS+Protocol

New features

The migration of everyone’s project spaces to the new directory structure will mean that we can release a range of new features to our Mediaflux platform.

We’ll provide more details on these additional features when they’re closer to release, but to give a flavour of what’s coming …

  • Soft deletes (deleted files can be recovered, similar to “trash” on other systems)

  • Point-in-time file restoration (storage can be viewed as it was at a given date/time)

  • Enhanced searchability (the ability to search within folder/directory names)
