Terminology
- Users
- An External User is someone who does not have an account in the Mediaflux system. Â
- A Mediaflux User is someone who does have an account in the Mediaflux system. Â
- A User may be an External User or a Mediaflux User
- Tools
- The Data Mover is a Mediaflux tool (client application) which can copy data to and from Mediaflux via an upload or download shareable.
- Shareable
- A shareable is a Mediaflux entity that enables the sharing of data from and to Mediaflux via the Data Mover tool. There are specific download shareables and upload shareables.
- Within the shareable is a component called the token (like a password). Â This token can be used to construct URLs (links) and those links are what users click on to begin a data transfer.
- Words like shareable, token and link can be used largely interchangeably. They are all part of the same software framework. The Mediaflux Explorer interface refers to shares (which are in fact shareables).
- Projects
- A Mediaflux Project is a unique location in Mediaflux. Each Project has a set of Mediaflux Users that can access it (each user has a role that defines their permissions such as read-only or read-write).
- A Mediaflux Instrument Project is just a Mediaflux Project which is only accessible by Instrument Platform staff and provides a potential long-term location for the data
- Namespace
- A namespace is Mediaflux terminology for what you would typically call a folder or directory on a desktop computer. These words can be used interchangeably.
